Our Approach

  • Foundation

Clients show up with skills and it's important to recognize such. In the productive struggle towards joy, one must first take account of the skills and tools they do have, so that they may effectively plan for those which they hope to acquire. The encouragement of clients to show up as their full selves and know this is a safe space, supporting a myriad of learning styles, differences, and maturities always with the clients growth and best interest at the foundation.

  • Approach

Once all these skills are learned, there are necessary steps to help promote habit formation. Knowing the only control is self control, this aims to support clients in their empowerment of the parts of them that do not often get a voice. The reminder that things are survivable, obtainable, and able to be made more manageable is deeply rooted in this program, and is driven by the fact that this internal encouragement is crucial in reciting efficient and effective standards.

  • Standards

    1. The softening of the defenses and schemas that can distort our understanding and lead to unwanted behaviors, they are the things that lead to healing and learning how to feel various emotions without sacrificing the other needs that one desires to have met.

    2. Allow clients the chance to sit in the reality of not wanting to be wrong or having to remediate things and still having to do/meet that expectation. When avoidance is promoted in the mind, there is a litany of things that can justify "failure" (the only failure is the failure to actually attempt).

    3. Encourage clients as they start to build this story, to be comfortable knowing they won't hit everything on the head perfectly and that the full creation is under their control and dominion.

Meet the Neuro Nurture Team

Sean McJunkins II | Founder

Sean McJunkins II has been a teacher for 8+ years, working in a variety of roles and managing a litany of responsibilities. He first obtained his English and Africana (an interdisciplinary study of the world from an African perspective) double major from Rutgers University, and his masters' of education, with a concentration in special education, from Grand Canyon University. This allows for Mr. McJunkins to provide a number of services and further apply his years of experience in general education, co-taught, and other varied environments for diverse learners.

Growing up in New Jersey, he long has enjoyed the season and outdoors, promoting his move to the Midwest to further serve students who historically have experienced disenfranchisement systemically. In this productive struggle, he found that the classroom was useful, but many students needed support in a more specific manner. Sean hopes to help close that gap through providing his services to families and believes that all work and progress begins with trust and relationships. He is excited to apply these virtues in his work with families and stakeholders.

A majority of his experience has been focused on high school aged children, but his ability is not limited to only older scholars. In his time as a lead teacher in the Chicagoland area, he has created, proliferated, and redressed in person SAT, ACT, and Core Curriculum standardized mastery assessments. Mr. McJunkins' deep understanding of standards and scaffolding of skills has served numerous communities well, and he brings that same tenacity to the needs of our scholars and clients. He enjoys playing various instruments like guitar, drums, and piano, as well sharing his deep understanding of all music genres. As a lifetime scholar himself, Sean McJunkins II is excited to learn from and teach those who are seeking guidance towards their best self and highest potential.
